Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, allosexual the list goes on and on. Some of the newer sexuality’s, while not new AS orientations, are newer names. When most people think of sexual orientation, what typically comes to is the well-known acronym: LGBTQ+. Those five letters stand for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. However, Transgender is a gender identity and not a sexual orientation. The + encompasses all the rest. Demisexuality would fall under this and since it is not one of the main letters may people don’t know much about it. We are here to help demystify this sexuality you may have just recently started hearing more about.
Demisexuality
It is surprising that demisexuality isn’t talked about more often as it seems more people identify this way than may even realize. So, what is it? In short demisexuality is when you only feel sexual attraction to someone once you already feel an emotional connection. The full dictionary definition says: “sexual orientation characterized by only experiencing sexual attraction after making a strong emotional connection with a specific person. A demisexual identity is a useful indicator for where a person might fall on the asexual spectrum.”
Sounds dull?

You may be surprised that despite a demisexuals delay on hopping into the bedroom they can still be kinky AF. Just because they require an emotional attraction before they will even consider a sexual one doesn’t mean that once you’ve seduced them mentally, they wont tie you up and have their way with you often. In fact, most demisexual report having an exceptionally high sex drive, and don’t require the romantic candlelight and rose petals to get in the mood.
Brains beat Beauty
You read that right. For demisexuals that “spark” you feel when seeing someone from across the room just doesn’t exist. Their neither regions are completely unaffected by appearances they require that mental connection to begin viewing someone in a sexual light.
So, over all demisexuals tend to need a friendship first because they need to be emotionally attracted for things to progress. However, sexuality is fluid so just because someone says they are demisexual, don’t make assumptions, let them explain what that means for them.
