With the Holiday Season upon us it’s almost impossible to get away from all the delicious treats and sweets that seem pop up at your every turn. Left over Halloween candy crammed in drawers, decadent Thanksgiving deserts, and Christmas cookies and pastries to die for. Who are we to let all those yummies go to waste? It’s time to repurpose some of those sweet treats and use them to have some fun!
Aphrodisiac foods may seem like such a cliché, but there is a certain science to it. “The link between food and sex drive isn’t just wishful thinking” says Cynthia Sass, RD, author of S.A.S.S Yourself Slim ($10-14; amazon.com). “Studies show that certain foods or nutrients do play a role in boosting libido and supporting a healthy sex life.” Now if you’re anything like me, some of these choices may seem a little strange, but the reasons behind bringing these foods in the bedroom are pretty solid. Let’s take a quick look at some of the most popular choices.
Oysters are proven to be high in zinc and amino acids which trigger production of sex hormones. However, if you’re anything like me, after sliding one of those down my throat, I wouldn’t want any part of you in my mouth. So try these on your partner, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Strawberries, let’s just say it, they are sexy! There’s nothing like covering your partner’s eyes and hand feeding them this deliciously succulent treat, but that’s not the only reason why. Sexual function for men and women depend on good circulation, which are helped by the antioxidants in strawberries. So these treats are a great sexy snack for before, during, and after, especially when paired with our next treat.
Chocolate: now there’s a fun food for sex! Cocoa contains the chemical phenylethylamine, a stimulant that invokes the feelings of happiness and excitement that trigger the ideas of sex. Melt it down, dip some snacks, drizzle it, or simply feed it to your significant other and you’ve got a recipe for fun!
Hot chilies increase circulation too! Chilies get blood pumping and stimulates nerve endings so you’ll feel more turned on; however, not sure how you feel after a few peppers, but my body is usually triggering a few things and sexual arousal is not one of them.
Red Wine; now there’s an aphrodisiac I can get down with! Besides relaxing you, red wine contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that helps boost blood flow and improves circulation before and during intercourse.
These are just a small taste of what you can do with some of those left over holiday treats in the bedroom. With my mouth watering and mind racing about where I’d like to eat some of those off my partner’s body, let us know what else you might want to use, and we’ll let you know if you’ve got a recipe for fun!
