The Facebook page “R.I.P. Hugh Hefner” attracted over one million likes since it’s creation Monday. News of the industry icon Hugh Hefner’s death spread like wildfire in the two days since then. Hundreds of fans have started sharing messages of condolences across Facebook and twitter. So is it true? Is Hugh Hefner dead? If he is what is in store for the Bunnies in the months ahead? We have all of those answers and more for you.
On Tuesday August 2nd- the tycoon’s reps officially confirmed that Hugh Hefner is not dead. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said. The rumors were quickly addressed and the Facebook page removed. However Hollywood is still in mourning. Details about the Playboy mansion being up for sale have slowly been leaking since early this year, and they have been confirmed.
The mansion found a buyer in June as Hefner’s next door neighbor Daren Metropoulos (we aren’t pulling your leg that’s his real name.) signed a deal to buy the property. He agreed to the nine digit price tag and the unusual provision that Mr. Hefner be allowed to continue to remain on the property until his passing. Mr. Metropoulos also agreed to leave the legendary bedroom as is after his passing.
So what does all this mean for the Bunnies? At the moment, nothing. It’s business as usual for them. It is unclear what will happen once Hugh does pass, but for now the extravagant parties will continue. In fact the Midsummer’s night party is only a few weeks away, and tickets for the Halloween party are already on sale for a discounted price of $2,490 each.
Despite all they hype nothing has actually changed, and it doesn’t look like anything will be anytime soon.
