Welcome back to the series that delves into some of the stranger aspects of sex and sexuality. When you hear sensory deprivation your mind may instantly jump to BDSM, while sensory deprivation can be integrated as a part of a BDSM scene, it is actually its own free standing form of sexual play.
What is Sensory Deprivation?
Sensory Deprivation revolves around the fact that when one sense is inhibited the other four are enhanced. Therefore when limiting some senses the remaining ones are in overdrive making pleasure that much more intense. The most commonly used forms of sexual sensory deprivation are the restriction of sight and speech, however the other five senses are not off limits. Some people even go as far as to restrict all five senses at once. One form of extreme sensory Deprivation is mummification, however this is done by more experienced players so don’t run right out and buy bondage tape and mummify your partner as that would be unsafe.
Ways to play
There are 5 senses that can be taken away one at a time or in any combination, here are some great ways to play if you want to give sensory deprivation a try.
Sight Play
The most obvious way to deprive this sense would be a blindfold. Not only can you choose a blindfold with a material that will add to the sensory bliss but you will be able to keep them safely deprived while only removing the once sense. If you are a little more experienced at sensory deprivation you could try a hood. Hood’s can restrict breathing as well as sight, smell, taste and hearing. So if you are going to give one a go make sure to have some round ended medical scissors on stand by for quick removal.
Sound play
If you want to cut off their sense of hearing simply slip on some earmuffs or earplugs. Restricting hearing is less common than other forms of sensory deprivation, but can make a fantastic accompaniment to any scene. It prevents them from being able to anticipate the next sensation by hearing what you are doing.
Turn On With Smell
Smell is often left out during sensory deprivation, however a gas mask can be used as a way to restrict four out of the five senses; sight, hearing, taste and smell. That’s right a gas mask leaves only the sense of touch which will be heightened to the max, every single touch will be a crashing wave. Gas masks also come with some risks so aren’t great for beginners.
Taste Play
A ball gag is a great tool for sensory deprivation as it will completely incapacitate the mouth, meaning that tasting anything at all is impossible. However it can sometimes be a little painful on the jaw so if only pleasure is your goal this isn’t the best option, maybe a silk scarf used as a gag would be better.
Touch Play
Restraints are often used in BDSM scenes to stop naughty bottoms from reaching for things that they shouldn’t. However they are a great tool for sensory deprivation as they not only take away the ability to touch but also immobilize so there is no wax accidently dripping where it shouldn’t due to squirming and the like.
If you are looking to remove, or have all five senses removed then mummification with bondage tape, or even a vacuum bed are perfect for you. However, don’t get sucked into trying it too soon; a vacuum bed is designed to cut off all five of the senses and will restrict breathing, so be sure to wait until you’re a little more experienced before giving it a go. It can make for some supreme sensory deprivation play, whilst clinging to every inch of the body for the ultimate in sex appeal. The gentlest touch will deliver an orgasmic thrill.
