Every fall, a plethora of insensitive Halloween attire seems to make the rounds, and this year is clearly no exception. Photos of several unusual outfits — many targeted at women — sparked backlash online for being sexist, culturally inappropriate or graphic. If you are looking for a sexy statement piece Don’t do this
Yandy’s Brave Red Maiden Costume is fashioned after the ground breaking Hulu show “The Handmaid’s Tale,” shortly after its release customers accused the company of sexualizing “a show about misogyny and rape.” Yandy eventually responded to customers’ concerns, claiming it was initially inspired to create the costume after recognizing it as a “powerful protest image.”
Do this instead
Yandy’s “Sexy Op-Ed Anonymous” costume is based on an opinion piece published Sept. 5 in The New York Times written by an anonymous senior aide in the Trump administration who claimed to be “part of the resistance.” You can make your statement without fear of being insensitive to the #metoo movement.
Avoid the Cultural appropriation hot buttons
There has been a huge public outcry from both Native Americans and non-Natives alike. Racism is a bad look and many of these culture as costume selections are now being considered racist.
Embrace the Season instead
If you want to be festive and add feathers consider going as a sexy turkey. There is literally 0 way to be offensive in a sexy turkey costume, unless you’re perhaps going to a PETA party. If you want to be less animalistic and more awe inspiring then consider a seasonal goddess. Say goodbye to October and hello to November by being a beautiful bountiful autumn harvest, or a sexy sassy scarecrow.
Skip the risk completely
If you want to play it entirely safe this year and still stay trendy then just thrown on a bathing suit and go as the fortnite life guard character, or their sexy shotgun secretary. There are numerous fortnite skins to choose from even a few Halloween themed, you are sure to be a hit in any one you choose from the last 6 seasons.
