Witches and brooms go hand in hand with Halloween. In this Italian superstition it is bizarrely literal in its meaning: If you’re single, never let a broom sweep across your feet, because then you’ll never have the chance to swept off your feet by a lover. That’s one heck of a broom hex.
Mirrors may be the most well known for years of bad luck, but in France, Russia, and Italy failing to make eye contact when proposing a toast will lead to seven years of bad sex. What could be more horrifying than almost a decade of unsatisfactory sexual encounters?
Speaking of mirrors. One superstition from Thailand warns against placing mirrors in your bedroom. Apparently, if you constantly see yourself in bed, your mind will begin to obsess over sex.
In Russia, a bouquet of yellow flowers can strike fear into a young lover’s heart as it means anything but love. Supposedly, this color symbolizes infidelity, and even if no one has been unfaithful yet, exchanging yellow flowers is believed to curse the relationship anyway.
