What is Katoptronophilia?

Similar to voyeurism katoptronophilia is a paraphilia for mirrors (the Greek word for mirror is katoptron). It may include activities such as having sex in front of mirrors, masturbating in front of mirrors, enacting other paraphilias in front of a mirror, having an orgy in front of a mirror, or enacting stripping fetishism in front of mirrors as the voyeuristic act. The main difference here is that for most katoptronophiliacs the pleasure is derived from watching themselves in the mirror, not their partner, for some people a partner isn’t necessary at all.

Have you ever watched the only movie American Psycho? Perhaps you remember the scene where Christian Bale is having sex with the two escorts, and even despite their best efforts he prefers to look at himself rather than the women he is making love to. This is a perfect example of a katoptronophiliac. For some people katoptronophilia ties very closely to their sexuality and they may identify as an autosexual. The easiest way to tell if you fall on this spectrum, is to think about your masturbation habits. If you picture yourself while masturbating, you may be autosexual. If you find yourself turned on looking at yourself in the mirror when you’re looking particularly hot, or getting off on watching yourself have sex with someone else in the mirror, you’re probably not an autosexual according to the strictest definition of the term.

There’s also nothing wrong with masturbating in front of the mirror simply because you’re feeling yourself, but if you require seeing yourself to climax chances are you are a katoptronophiliac.We will see you next Saturday for more strange sex adventures!
