We’ve told you how to make your own, we’ve reviewed our favorites, we’ve given you reasons to use them, but we haven’t talked about how to take care of them. Trust us this is super important!
First and foremost READ THE CARE INSTRUCTIONS! This isn’t one of those eh who really needs to read the directions situation. So many things can make your favorite toy go from pleasurable to painful. The wrong lube can degrade it and the wrong cleaning can create a breading ground for bacteria that can cause utis and yeast infection.
Soap and water are your friend. Seriously would you not clean yourself off after a steamy hot romp in the sack? Or even more would you let your partner join you if they hadn’t cleaned off? Use a mild soap and rinse it off, soap build up is just as bad as sex build up. If getting up and walking to the bathroom is to much for you invest in a toy cleaner you can keep with your toys so you an clean it off before you put it away.
Where you store your toys is just as important. If you don’t want to go all out for a “toy box” a cloth bag in a drawer will work just as well. The main thing is to keep them somewhere dry and cool where they wont pick up dust or pet hair (or get picked up by toddlers or even worse..in-laws).
Some of the best toys are battery operated. You should consider taking batteries out before cleaning and storage. Batteries leak, there’s no way around it. It’s better to be safe than have one ruined by an acid leak.
If you haven’t been taking proper care of your toys you may want to add a good deep cleaning to your spring cleaning to do list. Some of these toys are expensive and proper care can seriously extend their lifespan.
